Despite receiving budget approval from the Kansas Legislature, the Kansas Arts Commission was abolished in May with the strike of Brownbac's pen and line-item veto power. All five Kansas Arts Commission employees were fired.
Barbara Shelly, a member of the Star's editorial staff, wrote the op ed criticizing the Governor for using his office as a bull pulpit.
